Grief Therapy After Pregnancy Loss: What We Can Learn from Chrissy Teigen

Filed under:

Our current culture has a love for sharing their lives on social media, many broadcasting their every accomplishment. More likely than not, people are sharing the positive parts of their lives rather than speaking out on tough subjects such as grief and loss.

Chrissy Teigen is known by many as a public face for positivity. She is a wife, mother, and entrepreneur with a sense of humor and light-heartedness that has drawn many people to fall in love with her personality, not to mention her adorable family. Recently, Chrissy endured one of the most difficult situations a mother can go through, having a stillbirth. Many mothers who have gone through a hardship like this do not share such a private matter publicly. However, Chrissy Teigen made the decision to give the world a glimpse into what she is going through as she travels down the road of healing.

CHRISSY’S CHOICE

Sharing this very vulnerable piece of her life, along with so many others, has shown that life has its ups and downs, even for celebrities and high-profile personalities. So many of us forget that they are human as well, we are only allowed so much access into their lives. Chrissy made the choice to share her story with the world, connecting with so many others who may be feeling alone or afraid while increasing awareness around stillbirths.

“I cannot express how little I care that you hate the photos. How little I care that it’s something you wouldn’t have done.”

— CHRISSY TEIGEN

SUPPORT IN SHARING

As a society, topics like this are often avoided and kept private, leaving many women to feel vulnerable yet unable to express their feelings and emotions with friends, family, or social media. These women oftentimes feel misunderstood, but Chrissy Teigen has publicly shined yet another light on this subject. Hopefully, more women are able to come together to support one another with minimal feelings of judgment or defeat.

A TIME TO HEAL

The healing process takes time and looks different for everyone but one thing is for sure; no matter what we face in life, we are not alone. I believe more individuals in the public eye should be speaking out about tough subjects, it could help a lot of people. Chrissy found that sharing her story with us would be beneficial to her healing process and, to others who have experienced a similar loss. Whether you are someone who is open to sharing, or not, remember, even on the darkest days, there’s someone...somewhere...that can and will support you, You are never alone.

“I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren’t for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like. ”

— CHRISSY TEIGEN
